Weekly Activities

November 5th Schedule
We will meet at Heartworks for class. We will leave Heartworks at 10:20 and head over to the Mirror Lake Post Office for tour. (36 Tuftonboro Neck Rd, Mirror Lake, NH)

Morning Gathering:

  • Sing "Here Today."
  • Read All of Me! A Book of Thanks by Molly Bang and Giving Thanks by Jonathan London.
  • Play "Gratitude Grab Bag:" Children take turns reaching into a bag and pulling out a picture card or word card that says "Thanksgiving." If a picture card is pulled, children will express why we should be thankful for the item pictured on the card. If a card says "Thanksgiving", children will share something or someone they are thankful for.
Discovery Time:
  • Make Thank you cards.
  • Snack
  • Go to Mirror Lake Post Office for a tour.
  • Mail our Thank you cards.



October 29th Schedule
Please bring a favorite stuffed animal and blanket or something to snuggle up with.

Morning Gathering:

  • Sing "Here Today."
  • Snuggle up by the "fire" and listen to the story, A Story For Bear by Dennis Haseley and Jim LaMarche.
  • Make "Pumpkin Pie Hot Chocolate" and talk about numbers and the number grid 1-100.
  • Make choices for discovery time.
Discovery Time:
  • Top It and Addition Top It (new math game)
  • Number Grid Game (new math game)
  • Disappearing Train
  • Bear in a Cave Craft
  • Uno
  • Counting and Sorting Bears with playdough
  • Partner reading: bear books
Gathering:
  • Share what math games we played
  • Read Bear Snores On by Karma Wilson




October 22nd Schedule

Morning Gathering:

  • Read Big Smelly Bear by Britta Teckentrup.
  • Discuss our visit with Alman, the drummer who will visit with us.
  • Make Leaf Masks
  • Halloween stencils
Discovery Time:
  • Welcome Alman and he will talk with us about drumming and his experieince.
  • Drumming Demonstration.
  • Mini lessons on drumming, rhythms, and making a beat.
Gathering:
  • Read Runny Babbit by Shel Silverstein.





October 15th Schedule
We will meet at Heartworks, 249 Gov. Wentworth Highway, Mirror Lake, NH.
We will leave Heartworks at 9:50 for a tour of the new Tuftonboro Fire Station, 189 Middle Road, Tuftonboro, NH.

Morning Gathering:

  • Sing "Here Today."
  • Review expectations for the fire station tour.
  • Review the activities for discovery time and make choices.
Discovery Time:
  • Sorting fire extinguishers: small medium, and large.
  • Fire station beginning sounds.
  • Firefighter counting.
  • Firefighter handwriting.
  • Roll the dice graphing.
  • Firefighter game.

October 8th Schedule
Class will be held at Heartworks, 249 Gov. Wentworth Highway, Mirror Lake , NH.

Morning Gathering:
  • Sing "Here Today."
  • Read Open This Little Book by Jesse Klausmeier and A good Day by Kevin Henkes.
  • Discuss "good days" and what we can do when things don't go our way.
Discovery Time:
  • Make "little books of happiness."
  • New math game: disappearing train.
  • Make "Flubber!" 
  • Dramatic play: puppet theater.

October 1 Schedule
Class will be held at Heartworks, 249 Gov. Wentworth Highway, Mirror Lake , NH.

Morning Gathering:

  • Sing "Here Today."
  • Rhythm Stick Play.
  • Read Officer Buckle and Gloria by Peggy Rathmann.
  • Explore some more books and develop a list of questions for Officer LaFavre from the Tuftonboro, NH Police Department.
  • Play Exercise Dice.
Discovery Time:
  • Visit with Officer LaFavre
Gathering:
  • Review what we learned from our visit and make a thank you card for Officer LaFavre.
  • Make your own "safety tip" like in the story Officer Buckle and Gloria.



September 23rd schedule
We will meet at the camp Belknap Office located at 11 Chase Point Road, Mirror Lake , NH

If coming from Wolfeboro, Follow Rte 109 north. The entrance to Camp Belknap is on the left (Chase Point Rd) about a quarter mile past the entrance to Camp Northwoods/Pleasant Valley. You’ll see our green and white sign at the end of Chase Point Road.  Follow Chase Point Rd to the next green camp sign that says "main office" and pull in there to park and start class.

If coming from Heartworks or from the north, follow Rte 109 south.  About a 1/2 mile past pier 19, Chase Point Rd will be on your right. Morning Gathering:

  • Sing "Here Today."
  • Read Count Down to Fall by Fran Hawk.
  • Make a list of the signs of fall.
  • Prepare for a short hike outdoors to look for, observe, and collect signs of fall.
Discovery Time:Walk through the woods observing and collecting signs of fall. We will stop at the Environmental Center for some activities:
  • Leaf rubbings
  • Make leaf people and or a self portrait using the natural materials we collected on our walk.
  • Make a family tree with our collected branches.
  • Partner reading and book explorations.
  • Snack brought from home.
Gathering:
  • Share our projects.
  • Read Hello Squirrels! by Linda Glaser.
  • Sing "grey Squirrel."

Next week, October 1st, we will meet back at Heartworks for our visit with Officer LaFavre form the Tuftonboro Police Department!




September 17th schedule
Morning Gathering:

  • Sang "Here Today."
  • Read Today I Feel Silly by Jamie Lee Curtis and talked about feelings.
  • Reviewed our "Be Kind" rule and signed and decorated a "Be Kind" poster.
Discovery Time:
  • Decorated individual "Be Kind" signs.
  • Art station: collage
  • Games station: Guess Who, Candy Land, Chutes and Ladders, Alphabet Bingo
  • Dramatic Play: Housekeeping/kitchen play.
  • Writing Station: self portrait, writing, adjectives.
Gathering:
  • Read Grumpy Gloria by Anna Dewdney.
  • Sang and danced to "Going to Kentucky."
  • Decorated shakers to take home.


September 10th schedule
Morning Gathering:

  • Read Ish by Peter Reynolds.
  • Shape pick and share activity: pick a pattern block, use poster to reveal what to share about yourself.
  • Sang "Here Today."
Discovery Time:
  • Life size self portraits.
  • Sea shell explorations: shells, magnifying glasses, shell  books, colored pencils, notebooks. Children can explore and identify sea shells and draw pictures of what they find.
  • Games station: Guess Who, Top It, and Addition Top It.
  • Alphabet soup match.
  • Arts station: paint dobbers, markers, and crayons.
